At Auckland Physiotherapy we have a friendly and professional team who can help and support you throughout your pregnancy and post-natal journey.

After your 6 week Obstetric review we suggest seeing one of our Women's Health Physiotherapists for a "Post natal WOF" appointment to check pelvic floor activation and strength, assess abdominal separation and any current pain, and to check your general pelvic strength and function. From this assessment your physio will provide a tailored online exercise program, answer any questions you may have about what activities you can do and when, plus advice and a plan to get you back to the things you love. Your return to fitness and function may include a few follow up sessions to monitor progress and adjust your exercises, and your physiotherapist may suggest starting Pilates.

If you don't have time to see us at the 6 week mark, don't fret - seeing the team at any time post-partum will help!

What you can expect from your post-natal check:

  •       Full back, pelvic & posture assessment
  •       Detailed abdominal muscle assessment, including check for muscle separation and activation
  •       Abdominal muscle re-education, using real time ultrasound where appropriate
  •       Pelvic floor muscle assessment and re-education
  •       Advice on post-natal exercises & safe return to exercise and activity

Should there be any concerns from either yourself or your physio around pelvic floor function such as significant weakness, incontinence, constipation, pelvic organ prolapse, separation of the abdominals, or slow recovery in general, these should get picked up during your WOF consult and may shift the appointment towards addressing these issues. These types of concerns will need more follow up, if you choose to manage them with your physio. If you are unsure of what appointment to book, don't worry, we will figure it out during your session.
